April 15 Technical Series Meeting–Capturing the Moment

April 2, 2014

In this class, led by Dennis Rainville, we will  focus on the art of the capture.  We will start with talking about the Exposure Triangle, working our way into how to manually adjust your camera to capture the “ideal Exposure”.

Next general meeting is May 6, image sharing with Nick Johnson.  June’s meeting will be a presentation by  Charles MacPherson.  Here’s information about Charlie on the RAW Blog.    Also check out his website.

April 1 Meeting– Macrophotography

March 24, 2014

Milkweed seed

Nature photographer, Tom Whelan, will be our featured speaker for the April meeting ( 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, at the Old Town Hall, 16 South Road). Tom is a photographer who specializes in closeups of the natural world: abstracts of natural designs, portraits of flowers and insects, and the many forms of water. His photography has been used in displays at  the Museum of Science and published in magazines, books, and web sites. He has exhibited photographs at the Concord Art Association, the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, the Discovery Center at Silvio Conte National Wildlife Refuge, the Boston Nature Center, and the Habitat Sanctuary of the Massachusetts Aububon Society. His photographs have won awards from the North American Butterfly Association and the National Wildlife Federation.

Tom’s’s presentation will cover the nature and definition of closeup or macro photography. Using his own work, he will discuss his techniques and approaches and demonstrate how others interested photography can add macrophotography to their portfolio.

This is one of those months where the first Tuesday is also the first day.  So while you’re making a mental note not to let the office clown catch you on April fool’s, remember that we’re meeting that night, in case you should turn over the page to the next month too late.

BCA Photo Group Meeting on March 4

February 19, 2014

[Remember that the technical meeting originally scheduled for Feb 18 has been rescheduled for the 25th]

Our next meeting (March 4) will be devoted entirely to an image sharing session with New England School of Photography faculty member, Erin Carey critiquing.  Erin has provided very helpful critiques at two meetings earlier in the past year and we’re delighted that she will be returning.  Members may submit two images that will be projected on screen and two printed pictures that will be on display.   If you haven’t been submitting images for sharing, I’d encourage you strongly to take advantage of this opportunity.  Essential to improvement is getting feedback on what you are doing.  We are very lucky to have in Erin, a critiquer who provides that feedback in a very supportive way.  I think we all learn from hearing critiques of not only our own work, but those of others as well.  So… please remember that the deadline for submitting images is Friday, the 21st.  In addition, you may also bring along two prints (unframed, matted if possible) on March 4. February Technical Meeting Postponed to February 25

February 18, 2014

Hi Folks,

Once again, the third Tuesday has turned out to be a snowy day/evening.  Concerned about anyone having to travel and likely low turnout, Dennis has sent out a message to the Yahoo Group indicating that the technical meeting scheduled for tonight (2/18/14) will be postponed to same time next week (2/25/14).  BTW, if you’re not on the Yahoo List, this is a good reason why you should join.  Cancelations, change of times, instructions for image sharing, etc. are all communicated this way.  If you’re not on the list, send me an email at rwbass5@comcast.net and I’ll have Yahoo send you an invitation.  That’s it.  You can decided how to receive the messages (each one immediately–recommended, or one of several digest versions).

While I have your attention, don’t forget to submit images for March’s image sharing.  We’ll devote the whole evening to this and Erin Carey from NESOP will be there to discuss the images.
